Here comes 2011, but wait… 2010 aint over yet!

This time of year is really hectic. We are in the early stages of breeding for the 2011 season and we are still feeding 2010 babies each Tuesday. Add on top of that expanding our rodent production, expanding our breeder female collection, things are spinning out of control.

Well maybe not out of control, but right on the borderline. LOL! It’s been real hard keeping up with so many animals and normal seasonal house chores. The past few days I have been splitting up wood and stacking it. But I have also tried to sneak in some time for the snakes. I tell you, it ain’t easy. My common theme is get a ton done today, cause tomorrow there’s 10x more!

There is hope in site though. We have our breeding stock right where we want it. We did pair some males and females the other day. Only pairing locked up, but that’s OK it’s still real early. We did drop our temps again as planned so now we are 4 degrees cooler at night. Most we will go is 5 on the hot spot. Gotta love those Herpstat NightDrop t-stats!

If my post feels a bit rush, it is… LOL It’s 2am and I need to be up early to get started once again.

I did update some of the pictures on the available page. We now have 2 het pied pairs left, a het albino pair left, albino male, lesser male, and some other odds and ends. I do have a few more animals to list so keep on checking back.

I will try to get some more pictures for you guys soon. Until then, stay cheesy!

Adding to the collection has never been so stressful.

question mark1 200x300 multi gene morphs males At certain moments in one’s collection it becomes apparent that it is really hard to decide on what to add to it. This summer I want to add some more breeder males to my collection, but the choices have me agonizing over what to pick.

On one hand there are a few males that are absolutely stunning. They are the perfect example of the morph. But are they financially feasible to the longevity of the collection? On the other hand, there are a few males that could really take the collection to the next level. But do you take the plunge?

Wait…. What?

You heard me. At certain points in growing one’s collection you have to make the right choices to get from point A to B. Do you add multi gene males that can reproduce less valuable animals, but if you hit on the odds the animals that can be produced could potentially be absolutely just as stunning as the father?

Or….

Do you get that single gene higher end morph rely less on the odds and more on the fact that he is higher end? That is the choice we all have to make when growing our collections. Let me tell you, it is not an easy one. I am not made of money because if I was this choice would be real easy. I’d get both! LOL

What do you think you would do? Would you go for the gold or go for the beautiful animal? Is the animal only beautiful because you are bias to that morph? Do you make the sound business decision or go on your gut?

Anyone want to lend me some money? LOL End the misery for me… LOL When I make my choice I’ll be sure to update you guys.
